Meet Amanda
FUNctional Speech + Language LLC is owned and operated by Amanda Kukis, M.A., CCC-SLP, who is a certified Speech-Language Pathologist through the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and is licensed in the state of New Jersey. She is also certified by the New Jersey Department of Education as a Speech-Language Specialist. Amanda received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies from Montclair State University and a Master of Arts Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Kean University. Amanda is a Hanen certified Speech Therapist with training in It Takes Two to Talk.
Amanda has 9+ years of experience working in a special education school, in a pediatric outpatient medical center, and in private practice evaluating and treating children with a variety of speech/language disorders such as childhood apraxia of speech, articulation/phonological disorders, language-based disorders, and feeding disorders. Amanda was a member of an autism diagnostic team and apraxia task force. She also has experience presenting at various parent workshops as well as mentoring graduate students in the clinical setting.
After having children, Amanda decided to open FUNctional Speech + Language LLC to bring both her experience as a mom and as a therapist into the home environment where a child can learn how to communicate effectively in the most comfortable setting. Amanda is passionate about partnering with parents and coaching them to make sure they can help their child carryover the skills learned in therapy and strengthen family interaction.
